Baptism :: Prayers of the Faithful

Please Note the Following regarding Prayers of the Faithful

The prayers of the faithful are focused on bringing our needs to God as well as responding to the Christian call to prayer for others.

The below are offered as samples that may be used.

Please feel free to chose prayers of the faithful from below – the usual number is between 5-6. Once person can do all, or you can arrange to have one person for each prayer etc.

The priest starts the prayers of the faithful with an invite to prayer & concluding prayer

Priest: My dear brothers and sisters, let us ask our Lord Jesus Christ to look lovingly on this (these) child(ren) who is (are) to be baptized, on his (her/their) parent(s) and godparents, and on all who are gathered here.

 

1.     We pray that this child (these children) baptised today will always receive the loving and joyful support of our parish community. Lord hear us

2.     We pray for expectant mothers, and parents hoping for a baby, that their dream of a healthy child may become a reality. Lord hear us

(All) Lord graciously hear us

 

3.     We thank you Lord for our parents and all those who handed on the faith to us. Lord hear us

4.     We pray for our friends and relatives who have gone before us in faith, and also for children who have died around the time of birth: that all whom we’ve lost, will pass from death to new life. Lord hear us

5.     We pray that we may all become more tolerant and understanding of the cultural and ethnic diversity in our society today. Lord hear us

6.     We pray for all birth mothers who have had to relinquish their children, that they may find peace, love, and happiness. Lord hear us

7.     We pray that all present today will respond fully to the call of their baptism and accept the grace to remain open to God’s call of service to one another. Lord hear us

8.     We pray that parents will strive to make their homes places where children learn about the precious love of God. Lord hear us

9.     We pray for young people: that they may persevere in hope, trusting in God’s faithfulness to them as they search for deeper meaning in life. Lord hear us

10.    We pray for wisdom for parents and educators, that they may know how to hand on the faith to children. Lord hear us

Priest: Uniting our prayers with those who have gone before us, we now invoke the Saints in heaven to pray and intercede for us.
